VISION

Addressing structural barriers. Working towards racial justice and systemic equality.

To make York a fairer and more equal city for those that live, work or visit, regardless of their background, ability, gender, culture or creed.

MISSION

IERUK provides research and policymaking, strategy, campaigning and advocacy on anti-racism, inclusion and fairness. Working with the city’s diverse communities and groups, IER UK have developed a five-year long-term anti racism and inclusion strategy and action plan for the city of York. The action plan will provide an evidence-based set of initiatives to tackle and dismantle casual and systemic racism; promote equality and fairness and champion diversity and inclusion in the city of York.

York is the first city to declare its aspiration and commitment to be anti-racist city in the North of England. We aim to be the leading policy, research and advocacy agency in the United Kingdom for anti-racism and anti-hate work. The comprehensive and impact-focused strategy and action-plan is a template that we can share its learnings with other UK cities and towns as they take their own journeys towards tackling racism, discrimination and solving disproportionate levels of societal inequalities.

Our commercial arm, Speak Up Diversity offers consultancy services to businesses and governmental agencies to leverage diversity in the workplace. Businesses have a role to play in embracing differences, and tackling workplace discrimination.

LONG TERM MISSION

Beyond the development of the City’s long-term anti-racism and inclusion strategy and action plan, Inclusive Equal Rights UK aims to:

1: Provide research and policymaking, strategy, campaigning and advocacy advice to UK’s local authorities, government agencies, grassroots organisations and institutions.

2. Provide strategic and impactful advice in tackling unfairness, inequality and injustice

3: Offer policy-focused solutions

4: Build platforms and services to support those that experience and suffer from racism and hold those accountable

5: Continue to make York an anti-racist and inclusive city.

We acknowledge many of the challenges we’re addressing are not quick fixes. However, we are inspired by the actions of those before us who showed that real change can happen.

  • We pay tribute to our enslaved ancestors and their allies that fought to end the dehumanisation and shipment of Black people to be slaves.

  • We will forever be indebted with gratitude to past social and civil rights leaders in the UK and beyond. Their unreserved lack of fear saw them fight for equal treatment, justice and opportunities for people of colour, including the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities.

  • We will always be thankful and take inspiration from those who continue to fight for the rights of marginalised groups today, such as those in the LGBTQ+ and Muslim communities.

Beyond the development of the City’s long-term anti-racism and inclusion strategy and action plan, Inclusive Equal Rights will focus on the following:

1

We provide research and policymaking, strategy, campaigning and advocacy advice to grassroots organisations, local authorities and governmental agencies in tackling inequalities and injustices.

2

To provide strategic and impactful advice in tackling unfairness, inequality and injustice

3

Offer policy-focused solutions

4

Build platforms and services to support those that experience and suffer from racism and hold those accountable

5

Continue to make York an anti-racist and inclusive city.
